#cltArts April Meetup – Charlotte Ballet

The #cltArts monthly meetup team is back for April with a visit to the the studios of Charlotte Ballet, 6:15 p.m. Thursday, April 21. Led by internationally acclaimed President and Artistic Director Jean-Pierre Bonnefoux, Charlotte Ballet is known for its strong dancers and versatile repertoire, ranging from classical ballet like theNutcracker, to bold, contemporary works. The company of 25 professional dancers, who make Charlotte their home, annually present five performance series in Charlotte during a season spanning from October to April. In December 2014, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts presented Associate Artistic Director Patricia McBride with a 2014 Kennedy Center Honor.

During Thursday’s tour, we’ll go behind the scenes at Charlotte Ballet’s Spring Works series. Debuting next week at Knight Theater, Spring Works will feature some very unique performances. We’ll see a rehearsal, tour the costume-making shop and talk with the performers!

#cltArts March Meetup: The Bechtler Museum of Modern Art

The #cltArts monthly meetup team is back for March with a visit to the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, 2:30 p.m. Thursday, March 24. Opened in 2010, the Bechtler represents a collection of over 1,500 pieces of mid-century modern art, with a focus on European, School of Paris-style works. The Bechtler’s collection, amassed privately over 70 years, was donated to the city of Charlotte by the Bechtler family, with the hopes of sharing their unique treasures with the community. Six years into the museum’s existence, only roughly 25% of the collection has been shown for public view.

#cltArts Monthly Meetup to Showcase Best of Charlotte Arts & Culture via Social Media

CHARLOTTE, NORTH CAROLINA – Social Media Managers, marketing and other communications professionals from major Charlotte cultural centers will join forces to highlight one featured institution each month via a dynamic, multi-platform social media campaign.

Organizers wanted to create a collaborative alliance that features Charlotte’s cultural institutions in a way that celebrates their synergy and shared goal of providing the Charlotte community with world-class creative arts and culture. Paticipants include: Bechtler Museum of Modern Art, Charlotte ballet, Discovery Place, Opera Carolina and many more.

Through a monthly meetup, the #cltArts initiative aims to highlight the top cultural treatures in the city, provide access and insight into their organization, and share the vast, high-level artistic options available to the community.

Each month, one of the participating institutions will be featured across twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, Periscope and other platforms using the hashtag #cltArts, providing an inside look into the community’s cultural staples.

While the full 2016 schedule will be released soon, the current meetups will be at:

  • February 25, 11 a.m. – Discovery Place, aquarium tour
  • March 24, 11 a.m. – Bechtler Museum of Modern Art – The House That Modernism Built
  • April – Charlotte Ballet
